Bike purchase incentives in Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, we strongly encourage sustainable mobility. To promote this cause, we have set up an initiative offering incentives for the purchase of a bicycle. In this article, we’ll explore these bonuses in detail and show you how you can benefit from them.

What is the Bicycle Purchase Reward?

The Luxembourg government offers financial assistance, known as the “prime pour l’achat d’un vélo”, to encourage the use of bicycles. This bonus is designed to make bicycles more accessible and promote more environmentally-friendly mobility.

How can I benefit from the Bicycle Purchase Bonus?

To qualify for the bonus, you must meet certain conditions. First, you must be a resident of Luxembourg. Secondly, you need to buy a new bike. Second-hand bikes are not eligible for the bonus. Last but not least, you should use your bike for your daily commute, not just for leisure activities.

Up to €600 for the purchase of an electric bike

To encourage private individuals to opt for electromobility and active mobility, and thus make mobility cleaner in the long term, a new premium has been introduced for the purchase of a new bicycle or a new pedal-assist cycle (pedelec25) for private use. Individuals can claim a bonus of 50% of the cost of the vehicle, excluding VAT, up to a maximum of 600 euros for purchases made between May 11, 2020 and March 31, 2024 (with supporting invoice).

The people concerned

The premium can be granted to individuals resident in Luxembourg for their personal needs. Only one grant can be awarded per individual within a 5-year period. Financial assistance is available for new vehicles invoiced between January 1, 2019 and March 31, 2024.

What to do?

To qualify for the Sustainable Mobility Bonus, individuals must submit a form to the Environmental Administration. The form is available here. For more information, visit the myguichet.lu website.
